Jason Andrew Brown - Rockwired Radio Profiles #689

Indianapolis-based singer-songwriter JASON ANDREW BROWN has just released his self-titled debut EP and it's a fantastic introduction to both the man and the artist but you must understand that this guy comes with one hell of a musical background. His tenure as a solo artist was begun in a coffee shop back in 2014 but before that he proved to be a formidable front man in the band PUSH DOWN & TURN in which he toured the country relentlessly and shared stages with the likes of COUNTING CROWS, BUSH, WIDESPREAD PANIC and THE BO DEANS. The band even had the opportunity to play on the H.O.R.D.E TOUR. When BROWN had gotten his fill of nonstop touring he turned his attention to forming his own band with fellow songwriter JAMES WESTON. That band was SEDNA and they carried on with BROWN int he command seat until 2014 where the fateful decision to do a solo set was made.  JASON ANDREW BROWN - the songwriter and performer both come to life on this shimmering debut EP where BROWN proves that he deft at conveying unbridled joy and abandoned without getting all sugary on the EP's opener SHINE SUN SHINE. At another turn he can paint a sorrowful, moving picture as he does on EMPTINESS IS FOREVER which deals with a friends suicide and on the final track ICARUS he gives us the chill off a lifetime as the song explores the last moments of a man jumping from the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Rockwired Radio Profiles #615 - Death Valley Dreams

Yes the road to rock n roll glory is a long and winding and sometimes you run into dead ends and cul de sacs. There is no one route that works the same for anybody so there is almost no way to advise one to tread the shaky ground of this here music industry but a fellow like NICK COYLE could be a textbook example of how not to give up. NICK COYLE first hit the scene in a big way with the band LIFER and later DRAMA CLUB. ROCKWIRED first became acquainted with him three years ago when he had formed the band STARDOG CHAMPION with members of BREAKING BENJAMIN. A year later he broke off on his own and released a solo album which boasted a more electronic side to his songcraft. Now the past has caught up with NICK in a sense but it's paying off artistically as well as musically. He has formed his newest band DEATH VALLEY DREAMS with guitarist JON NOVA who was a guitarist from DRAMA CLUB and together they've created a straight-forward rock sound punctuated by icy electronics. While a a couple of the tracks on their recently released debut EP such as the punchy opener WORDS LIKE FIRE may bring back a memory or two of the likes of ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN or THE CHURCH, DEATH VALLEY DREAMS is far from being a mere nostalgia act. This newest chapter in COYLE's musical journey is an exciting turn of events and we get a sense that this outfit is in this for the long haul.

Rockwired Radio Profiles #576 - Bad Reed

It's always exciting to catch something from the very beginning with the Brantford, Ontario-based band BAD REED who have just issued their self-titled debut EP.  For a recording with only three songs on it, the musical ground that gets covered is quite expansive covering jazz, blues and progressive rock and even some electronic flourishes. The band - comprised of GRAHAM WALKER on guitars, SYDNEY SOLLAZZO on vocals and keyboards, AUSTIN THARPE on bass and COSTA CHATZIS on drums and percussion - is certainly not afraid to experiment but there is something inviting and accessible about the experimentation at hand here. This premiere effort is worth a few extra listens.
