Kristi Lane Sinclair - Rock Is Red #30

Back in 2014 when  ROCKWIRED first became acquainted with Haida/Cree songwriter KRISTI LANE SINCLAIR, she had just been nominated for what was called the ABORIGINAL PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD for BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE for her album THE SEA ALONE - a moody collections of songs that showcased SINCLAIR's considerable Classical music training and her fondness for the maudlin rock lyric worthy of BILLY CORGAN at his best. It's no accident that we mention the name CORGAN. It was the SMASHING PUMPKINS that got SINCLAIR excited about the six-string and music making in the first place. From there SINCLAIR went on to study classical music but eventually found her own sound and voice and has released a a catalog of music marked by classical flourishes and rock n roll angst. On her latest INDIGENOUS MUSIC AWARD nominated album DARK MATTER, SINCLAIR embraces the punk and grunge sounds that got her going artistically in the first place and as a result we are taken on a dark and moody journey that most certainly exhilarates.

Rockwired Radio Profiles #633 - Stewart Franke

I will first address the fact that BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN himself makes an appearance on the opening track of STEWART FRANCKE's self-titled EP. The song is SUMMER SOLDIER (HOLLER IF YOU HEAR ME) and if no one could imagine THE BOSS himself making some magic out of this gloriously stomping rocker on life on the pointlessness of war than I don't know what I can say to convince you but SPRINGSTEEN isn't the point. It's STEWART FRANCKE's lyrical narrative and parched delivery that anchor this SPRINGSTEEN-esque tale.  FRANCKE's self-titled EP is an eight song collection that truly tells a story of the Detroit singer songwriters own musical journey over the years. An informal greatest hits if you will where the FRANCKE and company sway with balladry, stomp with rockers such as KISS KISS BANG BANG and rolling to an R&B groove like he does on the HALL AND OATES-ish splendor of SAM COOKE'S ON THE RADIO.

Rockwired Radio Profiles #533 - Tyler Gilbert

As far as accolades go, Calgary born, Saskatchewan based singer/songwriter TYLER GILBERT has been nothing short of an indie sensation since releasing his 2008 debut EP Vos and its full length follow up THE RE-SESSION (2009). He's done national tours all over his native country, from Vancouver and Edmonton to Toronto and Montreal; performed at countless major festivals, including the CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC AWARD FESTIVAL and CANADIAN WESTERN AGRIBITION; done national tours of the U.S. Midwest; and performed live on GLOBAL TV and CTV while his music hit the playlists of top stations all across Canada. But behind the scenes, there are always those darker challenging realities that any indie artist faces in building a great career - those moments when anything that could go wrong along the way, did. As GILBERT explains in his liner notes, the title of his latest album OK MURPHY is his way of acknowledging that there are always bumps in the road - and Murphy's Law may have prevailed in the past, but no longer. Like, "Ok Murphy, you won this round, but now you're on the sidelines." The future couldn't be more vibrant as Gilbert finds the perfect balance on the 13 track set between the acoustic folk/rock of his past and the electric-driven rock direction he continues to gravitate to.
